Gli scaligeri Marygold, nati dalle ceneri di una cover-band dei Marillion, esordiscono nel 2005 con “The Guns Of Marygold”, anche se il battesimo di fuoco arriverà due anni dopo quando vengono chiamati ad aprire ai Balletto di Bronzo per il “Verona ProgFest”.
Dopo un lungo periodo di riflessone durato dieci anni, il quintetto dei Marygold – Guido Cavalleri (voce e flauto), Massimo Basaglia (chitarra), Stefano Bigarelli (tastiere), Marco Adami (basso), Marco Pasquetto (batteria) – ritorna con un disco targato Andromeda Relix e con l’ottima produzione di Fabio Serra.
Il risultato finale è un neo-progressive con forti rimandi classici (i Genesis in primis), in cui è encomiabile l’affiatamento tra i vari strumenti, seppur le tastiere si trovino sempre in primo piano. “Lord Of Time” rimane probabilmente il miglior esempio dell’abilità e della versatilità dei musicisti, capaci di combinare orecchiabilità e virtuosismo (Valeria Ferro 7/10)
The Marygold Scaligers, born from the ashes of a Marillion cover-band, made their debut in 2005 with “The Guns of Marygold”, even if the baptism of fire will come two years later when they are called to open the Bronze Ballet for the “Verona ProgFest”.
After a long period of reflection that lasted ten years, the Marygold quintet – Guido Cavalleri (voice and flute), Massimo Basaglia (guitar), Stefano Bigarelli (keyboards), Marco Adami (bass), Marco Pasquetto (drums) – returned with a record labeled Andromeda Relix and Fabio Serra’s excellent production.
The end result is a neo-progressive with strong classical references (the Genesis in primis), in which it is praiseworthy the fellowship between the various instruments, even if the keyboards are always in the foreground. “Lord Of Time” remains probably the best example of the ability and versatility of musicians, able to combine catchiness and virtuosity (Valeria Ferro 7/10)
