Marygold
started in Verona, in the autumn of 1994, on the ashes of
Wildfire, a cover band focused on Marillion of the Fish period.
The Wildfire survivors,
Jack
(drums), Stefano
(keyboards) and Massimiliano (bass), were joined, in unexpected
way, by Michele on voice and
Massimo on guitar.
The harmony with the new ones was reached by playing out covers
of Marillion and Genesis, but after a small time the embryo of
what will became later on the track
The wizard turn out naturally and without any forecast, and
the little by little development which nearly by joke was
carried on placed the group in the forehead of a crossroad:
continue to play cover or trying to create our own collection
made of original songs? As we said, the harmony was good, the
experience of the cover played in the premises of the city had
been already made by all of the members, so ... why not trying
to do it?
With this first structure of the group, which in the beginning
did not have a true name, were born some of the tracks that will
later on took part on the CD (Crows
on the
tree is one of these), further than lots of rough drafts
that are still waiting to be developed. After some time the bass
player Massimiliano leaves the group and Marco Adami, previously
playing with Yellow Plastic Shoobedoobe (Genesis’ cover band),
and then author together with the singer Michele of the lyrics
of the songs, took his place.
The arrangement of the songs carries on: in this period
Tania stands...
and
Sunflowers
are born, along with an instrumental piece not included in the
CD, and the usual multitude of ideas. One of these, product of
Michele’s explosive genius, was almost fulfilled, but in its
original garment it turns out in something really difficult to
arrange. The work was complex, the piece was changed only
maintaining its central nucleus, and the group enters in a
critical period that lead to the break with the singer Michele
who run off the band.
Guido, he also former Yellow Plastic Shoobedoobe, came into
as singer and with him we finally took control over that piece
left in inheritance from Michele: the final edition satisfies
all, and its title Marygold will give, only later on, the name to the group.
The group with this configuration, and with the name Sunflowers,
was then ready for live activity, but with great trouble it only
succeeded two times to make live shows: the first one in a
premises of the city, the second one featuring in a growing
groups’ competition in province territory. In this period
Hara-kiri show
was born, a track that marks out a turning point in the
arranging way of the group, who tried to take off from its
arranging outlines in the searching of a more essential, direct
and less intellectual sound.
The
last change in configuration is with the leaving of the bass
player Marco. The group, that then positively chooses to name
itself Marygold, decides, while waiting to find a new bass
player, to make a recording, with the resources in its own
disposition, of all the tracks already completed and more
characteristic. And so, after three years of hard work, the
first CD, completely self produced, is ready. In the meantime,
Alberto, in art Card-sharper, bass player and composer, has
joined the group to be part of the plan. Marygold, with him, are
being setting up live show for the promotion of theCD,
in the meanwhile giving a gaze at all the tracks and ideas that
from long time are lying asleep in the deep and wonderful world
of Marygold!
